North Las Vegas Police arrested Terhain Woods, 20, in connection with a fatal shooting Sunday night.

A 20-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday in connection with a fatal shooting Sunday night, North Las Vegas Police said.

Terhain Woods of Las Vegas was arrested on one count of murder with a deadly weapon and one count of attempted murder with a deadly weapon, police spokeswoman Chrissie Coon said.

The shooting was North Las Vegas’ first homicide of 2012. A 31-year-old man, identified as Quincy Lavelle Hill, died of gunshot wounds to the head and pelvis, the Clark County Coroner’s Office reported.

The shooting happened at 10:08 p.m. Sunday in the 2600 block of Ward Street, near Martin Luther King Boulevard and June Avenue. North Las Vegas Police had responded to reports of gunfire, but they did not locate any victims when they arrived.

Twenty minutes later, a police dispatcher received information that two gunshot victims had arrived at University Medical Center, police said.

Hill died of his injuries at the hospital. The other victim, a 28-year-old man, suffered injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening, police said.

Police said it appears a fight broke out among a small group of friends gathered in a backyard, leading to gunfire, which struck the two victims. Woods was booked into the North Las Vegas Detention Center, where he is being held without bail, according to jail records.

Authorities urge anyone with information to call the North Las Vegas Police Department at (702) 633-9111. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555.
