Sunny skies today for Las Vegas, but breezy and cooler

Warmer weather moving in toward end of the week, says forecaster

Say goodbye to the clouds — sunny skies, but breezy and cool weather are on the way today for the Las Vegas Valley, says Kevin Janison, KSNV-TV meteorologist.

"Monday’s rain will be a memory as Tuesday will begin bright, sunny, breezy and cold!" Janison said.

This morning's low temperatures could bottom out in the mid 30s in some neighborhoods, he said.

"The combination of one system moving east, and high pressure attempting to move in from the west, will result in some breezy conditions at times Tuesday, with a few gusts over 20 mph," he said.

Even with the sunshine, the high temperature this afternoon is expected to reach only 57 degrees, he said.

"But … a significant warming trend is being offered later this week when some neighborhoods will flirt with 70 degrees before this week is out," he said. "Enjoy it, as there will be a slight retreat heading into the weekend."

According to the National Weather Service, this morning’s low at McCarran International Airport was expected to be 39 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 40 degrees. The record low was 15 degrees, set in 1937.

Temperatures at McCarran were to rise today to 46 degrees by 9 a.m., to 54 degrees by noon and reach a high of 57 degrees by 2 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 59 degrees and the record high was 75 degrees, set in 1948.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 52 degrees by 6 p.m., to 44 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 41 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Wednesday's morning low will be 38 degrees and Wednesday's high will climb to 65 degrees, they said.
