Man struck by car on Sahara Avenue suffers life-threatening injuries

A 54-year-old man struck by a car Wednesday morning on Sahara Avenue suffered life-threatening injuries, Metro Police said.

Police said the accident happened at 5:28 a.m. on Sahara Avenue, east of Maryland Parkway.

The preliminary investigation indicates the pedestrian, who was not in a crosswalk, was crossing Sahara Avenue from south to north when the 2011 Toyota Corolla hit him, police said.

The Toyota, driven by 29-year-old Yusnier Ferrales-Oliva, was traveling west on Sahara when it hit the man, who had stepped into the westbound lanes from the median, police said.

The victim, identified as Alexander Alexanedre, was transported to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center with critical injuries, police said. Ferrales-Oliva was not hurt, authorities said.
