Letter to the editor:

Take lobbyists out of the equation

It takes millions of dollars to run for and be elected to the House of Representatives or the Senate and an equal or larger amount to be re-elected. That money comes from wealthy and powerful people, groups and businesses that want the Congress to do or not do certain things that give them advantages.

Members of Congress are constantly lobbied by lobbyists employed by these same people. Is it any wonder that no matter who we put in office, these people just keep being advantaged at our expense? It shouldn’t be.

If you really want your representatives to look out for your interests instead of those of the wealthy and powerful and their lobbyists, we must find a way to allow people to successfully run for office without having to sell their souls to get the money they need.
