Woman hit 2 times, once by Nye County sheriff’s office vehicle

A Nye County sheriff’s office vehicle and another vehicle fatally struck a woman Tuesday night along State Route 160, officials said.

The accident happened about 8:10 p.m. near Wheeler Pass Road in Pahrump, deputies said.

The woman was walking along the road when a civilian vehicle hit her, propelling her into the southbound travel lanes of State Route 160, authorities said. An oncoming sheriff’s office vehicle then struck the woman as she was lying on the roadway, deputies said.

The driver of the sheriff's office vehicle, whose name has not been released, was placed on administrative leave, officials said.

Nye County Sheriff Tony DeMeo and the Nye County coroner requested the Clark County coroner perform a postmortem forensic investigation on the victim, officials said.

The victim's name has not been released, pending notification of family.

The Nevada Highway Patrol, whose territory includes State Route 160, is investigating the accident.
