House fire caused by teen playing with fireworks displaces family

House fire

A teenager playing with fireworks inside a two-story home at 10437 Mulvaney Circle, caused a fire that charred the roof and second floor and displaced a family of five on Wednesday night, Clark County spokesman Dan Kulin said.

Clark County Fire Department received the call at 7:06 p.m. and put out the flames by 7:18 p.m., Kulin said. No one was injured, but the fire caused $150,000 in damage to the second floor and roof, Kulin said.

Kulin said the cause was classified as a careless misuse of fireworks. It is the first fire caused by fireworks under the Clark County Fire Department’s jurisdiction during the week of the Fourth of July, Kulin said. The fireworks were legal, Kulin said.

Kulin urges adults to be in control of fireworks at all times and to follow the county’s fireworks safety guidelines.
