Nightlife news & notes: The Situation’s birthday, Rusko’s residency and more

Jersey Shore star Mike Sorrentino celebrated the big 3-0 at Senor Frog’s.

New bar alert: The Paradise plaza that’s home to Kiss by Monster Mini-Golf now also hosts British pub and restaurant Firkin on Paradise (4503 Paradise Road). Part of a small North American chain of Firkins, the local outpost (which soft-opened on July 9) offers 42 beers on tap, including 10 on a rotational pour-your-own draft wall, and a full menu of English favorites and standard pub grub. The non-gaming bar also has darts, pool tables and shuffleboard, and happy hours and grand opening festivities are both in the works. Stay tuned.

Dubstep just won’t quit, and now, one of its sunnier practitioners is taking over Rain for a month-long residency. Every Saturday in August, British DJ and producer Rusko will bring his “happy and heavy” sounds to the Palms nightclub, where he promises to drop exclusives for the crowd as part of his 90-minute set each week. We get Rusko in the house to close out the summer; he gets to miss out on the Olympic mayhem back home—it’s a win-win.

And a belated happy birthday to Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, who rang in his 30th this past weekend at Señor Frog’s at Treasure Island with family and friends. I could tell you about what he ate and wore, but let’s cut to the chase: presents. Mike’s sister Melissa gave him a golden retriever puppy (which he named Moses); his brother Marc gave him $3,000 sneakers (Nike Air Yeezy II, if you’re into that sort of thing); and Mike gave himself the best gift of all: a 6,000-square-foot home in Monmouth, New Jersey. We know who’s getting the invite to our next birthday bash. (On second thought, they can all come.)
