Herman Cain and Mitt Romney are seen during the GOP presidential debate sponsored by CNN on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011, at the Venetian.

Former presidential candidate Herman Cain said Monday that Mitt Romney has no reason to release more of his tax returns, which would only give liberals more ammunition against him.

“Let me say this as emphatically as I can: Who cares about Mitt Romney’s tax returns?” he shouted during a press gathering after a speech at a vacant Reno strip mall. “Secondly, I love the fact that the guy is rich!”

Cain spoke at a rally organized by the conservative group Americans for Prosperity, which is running a bus tour across Nevada to attack President Barack Obama and Democratic Senate candidate Shelley Berkley.

In an unusual turn, Cain shied away from making inflammatory comments, refusing to say who he would like to see Romney choose as a running mate.

“I will have confidence in whoever he picks,” Cain said. “Now, there are some that I pray he does not pick, some of the ones who have been talked about in the press. I can’t tell you who those are.”
