Driver may have suffered medical episode in Boulder Highway crash

Accident scene

A medical episode may have led to a fatal accident this morning on Boulder Highway, according to Metro Police.

A collision was reported at 10 a.m. at 5719 Boulder Highway near Missouri Avenue, said Metro spokesman Marcus Martin. A Chevy Suburban crossed the median from southbound lanes to the northbound lanes, then struck a curb and a light pole before rotating back to the center median, he said.

The driver was transported to the St. Rose Dominican Hospital De Lima campus, where he was pronounced dead at 10:35 a.m., Martin said.

“Early indications are that it was a medical episode,” Martin said, adding it was still too early to be sure what led to the accident.

Three dogs in the vehicle were in unknown condition, Martin said. They have been taken in by Clark County Animal Control.

Police shut down northbound traffic from Boulder Highway and Flamingo Road to the intersection for about 45 minutes but it has since been reopened, Martin said.
