25-year-old loses leg in motorcycle crash

A 25-year-old motorcyclist’s right leg was severed Wednesday night in a collision with a car near Flamingo Road and Decatur Boulevard, Metro Police said.

Jimmy Hardy of Henderson was riding his 2002 Suzuki Katana motorcycle around 5:10 p.m. when he collided with the left rear of a 2003 Mercedes-Benz E500 driven by Nigussie Demissie, 45, of Las Vegas, police said.

Witnesses told police the motorcycle was speeding east on Flamingo Road when it hit the Mercedes-Benz that was making a U-turn just west of Decatur Boulevard, police said.

Hardy was ejected from his motorcycle during the collision and his right arm was severely injured and his right leg was sliced off at the scene, police said. Hardy was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition.

Demissie was taken to Spring Valley Hospital Medical Center with minor injuries, police said.

Metro’s accident Investigation section is investigating the crash, police said.
