Las Vegas isn’t short on entertainment. The Strip is one big nerve of musical theater, but imagine the experience if you couldn’t hear. Aaron Coulson can, though years of working with hearing-impaired performers in New York City inspired him to found a company for his hometown. That company is Las Vegas Deaf Theatre, and it debuts locally as the opening show for Super Summer Theatre. Collaborating with RagTag Entertainment, LVDT will perform the Rodgers and Hammerstein revue A Grand Night for Singing. The cast includes deaf, hard of hearing and hearing actors—all local—and the production is uniquely staged for an audience across the same spectrum, with live orchestration, dynamic voices and American Sign Language specialists. “We are bringing cultures and communities together. People are getting the opportunities to do things they have never done before,” Coulson says. And that goes double for the audience.
