Halloween may be over, but don’t throw out your costume just yet. Las Vegas loves a good spectacle any time of year, and these days, almost any event doubles as an excuse to get decked out in extravagant dress.

With theme celebrations held year-round in Las Vegas, it just might be worth your while to stop by the post-Halloween mega-sales at costume shops to stock up on masks, face paint and other goodies.

Get out a pen and mark your calendars for some of the best excuses to get dressed up in Las Vegas throughout the year:

    • Season 2 of Ghostbar Dayclub at the Palms on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012.

      Ghostbar Dayclub at the Palms

Wigs and tutus and pinatas, oh my! Ghostbar Dayclub might be the Strip’s best excuse to act like a kid again (in a 21+ playground) — and that especially includes playing dress-up. The daytime party encourages a spirited dress code of outlandish outfits, where just about any element from a Halloween costume will be right at home. Leave your minidress or suit jacket at home.

    • Halfway to Halloween

If you just can’t wait a whole year for Halloween, you’re in luck: Strip venues have recently taken to hosting “Halfway to Halloween” parties in April that feature all the variety, extravagance and attention to detail displayed during October’s festivities. The springtime celebrations even host cutthroat costume competitions offering prize pockets in the thousands of dollars.

    • Electric Daisy Carnival

The three-day nocturnal rave at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in June is a costumed spectacle on par with that of Halloween, with attendees decked out in everything from neon clubbing clothes to head-to-toe space-age costumes of their own design — even superheros can be seen flitting across the festival grounds. Corsets, head gear and multi-hued fur also are especially popular elements. EDC enthusiasts may want to take advantage of the Halloween store discounts on Nov. 1 to stock up on rave essentials like glowsticks, face paint and body glitter.

    • AFAN Black and White Party

Suits and cocktail dresses are good and well at this annual fundraiser to support Aid for AIDS of Nevada, but if you really want to get into the event’s flamboyant spirit, sport a mask, face paint or full costume. Whether you go casual, chic or totally wild, just be sure you observe the dress code’s one rule — black and white attire only.

    • Redfoo of LMFAO at Party Rock Mondays at Marquee in the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas on Monday, July 9, 2012.

      Party Rock Mondays at Marquee

With his frizzy fro, patterned pants and neon-framed glasses, Party Rock host and LMFAO member Redfoo has become his own Halloween costume. Guests at the monthly Monday night party are encouraged to share in LMFAO’s signature geek-rave style, so hang on to your ties, glasses, gaudy jewelry and anything sequined — the brighter the better.

    • First Friday attendees show off their unique style in downtown Las Vegas on Friday, March 2, 2012.

      First Fridays

Locals love to mingle — and show off their style — at First Friday’s themed monthly celebrations downtown. While some themes are better for costumes than others — you might be hard-pressed to dress up for November’s “The Art of Reading” — there are plenty of opportunities to get creative, including a beach night, Burning Man night and an Earth Day celebration.

    • XIV Vegas Sessions at Hyde Bellagio

Hyde Bellagio’s monthly Sunday parties, XIV Vegas Sessions, are all about glamour and decadence with a dash of fantasy. With themes like “Neon Circus” and “Superheroes,” any item from your Halloween repertoire is sure to be put to good use at the fall-through-spring celebrations.
