Chaparral football players Antonio Thomas and William Hernandez Thursday, July 26, 2012.

Chaparral High’s Antonio Thomas rushed for 167 yards and a pair of touchdowns Friday to lead the Cowboys’ football team to a 40-10 victory against visiting Sunrise Mountain.

After dropping league games against respectable foes Moapa Valley and Virgin Valley the past two weeks, Chaparral (4-3 overall, 1-2 league) broke into the win column thanks to its solid rushing attack and aggressive defense, Cowboys coach Bill Froman said.

“They tried to limit Antonio in the offense, but he wasn’t going to be stopped,” Froman said.

Jason Jonshon added 70 rushing yards and three touchdowns for Chaparral. Defensively, the Cowboys were led by Shamarlo Tinch’s 10 tackles.
