Home invasion suspect shot, then breaks into different home, police say

Suspect shot

A man was shot as he allegedly tried to break into a home near Ann Road and Simmons Street in North Las Vegas on Thursday morning.

North Las Vegas Police preliminary investigations indicate that the 66-year-old homeowner shot Shunta Hilliard, 34, before he could allegedly enter the house. Hilliard ran from the property and forced his way into another home a half-mile away in the 1700 block of Victoria Terrace Avenue.

Police officials said a mother and her two children, a 5-year-old and an infant, were upstairs when Hilliard kicked the front door in. Police were alerted to the second home invasion around 9 a.m., but he fled before police arrived.

The suspect fled to a nearby business, where he called for someone to take him to a hospital, where he was later arrested. In addition to the home invasion, Hilliard was wanted for four felony warrants through Metro Police.

Hilliard remains hospitalized in serious condition and is in Metro Police custody for the warrants, North Las Vegas Police officials said.
