Special Olympics fundraisers to rappel down Planet Hollywood

Planet Hollywood is looking for people to rappel from the hotel’s rooftop on the Las Vegas Strip to benefit Special Olympics.

People wanting to participate in the casino’s “Over the Edge” fundraiser must raise or donate at least $1,000 for Special Olympics Nevada. Money may be solicited online. Those filling the 80 available spots will rappel more than 300 feet down the side of Planet Hollywood.

“People either think you are cool or crazy, but no matter what, they recognize their donation is worth the cause it supports,” Maggie Schwarz, Special Olympics Nevada’s regional vice president, said in a statement.

The event will take place Oct. 13. No experience or prior training is required.

This is the first time the event, sponsored by Caesars Entertainment, has been at Planet Hollywood. It’s taken place the past two years at the Rio, raising more than $150,000 to benefit local children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
