Fatal accident

A 17-year-old boy died after being hit by a semitrailer Monday evening on Spring Mountain Road, according to Metro Police.

The accident happened at 5:02 p.m. at the intersection of Spring Mountain and Wynn roads, snarling traffic in the area.

The male victim was transported to University Medical Center’s trauma unit, where he was pronounced dead, Metro spokesman Jose Hernandez said.

Police said it appears the teen was crossing Spring Mountain Road from the northwest corner of the intersection and was heading south. He was walking in a marked crosswalk.

The semitrailer, driven by 36-year-old Brian Clark, was traveling south on Wynn Road and making a right turn onto the westbound lanes of Spring Mountain Road when the accident happened, police said.

The rear tires of the trailer rolled over the teen, who has not been identified, police said.

The driver of the semitrailer was not injured and remained on scene, police said.

The accident was the 34th traffic-related fatality in Las Vegas this year.
