Inmate dies after collapsing at Nevada prison

A High Desert State Prison inmate died Wednesday after he collapsed in the dining room from what appeared to be natural causes, Nevada Department of Corrections officials said.

David William Parks, 55, had been serving a 6- to 15-year sentence for attempted sexual assault of a victim under the age of 16, officials said. The prison is located in Indian Springs, northwest of Las Vegas.

After Parks collapsed, guards and medical staff attempted to resuscitate him, officials said. He died before he could be taken to the hospital, officials said.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office will determine the cause of death.
