Police seek help locating suspect in 2009 slaying of teen

Metro Police are hoping to drum up new leads to track down a teenager suspected of shooting and killing another man in June 2009.

Police allege that Kevin Alejandro Vargas shot and killed his friend Michael Guerrero on June 24, 2009, in the desert area in the 2600 block of Holly Avenue. Vargas, who was 16 at the time, has eluded police since then.

Police believe Vargas, now 19, escaped to either Southern California or Mexico. Vargas is described as a 5-foot, 140-pound Hispanic man with black hair and brown eyes. He has a tattoo on his right shoulder of a star with the word “Vargas,” imprinted in it, police said.

Police urge anyone with information regarding Vargas or the shooting to contact Metro’s homicide division at 702-828-3521, or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.

Any tips leading to the arrest or indictment may result in a cash reward from Crime Stoppers of Nevada, police said.
