Search underway for North Las Vegas man missing in Lake Mohave

Updated Monday, Aug. 5, 2013 | 11:07 a.m.

A search was underway today for a North Las Vegas man who went missing while swimming at Lake Mohave without a life jacket on Sunday.

Officials were notified about 3:35 p.m. Sunday of the 23-year-old man’s disappearance about a mile north of Cottonwood Cove.

The man and two others jumped off a boat to go swimming when the boat drifted away because of the currents and wind, National Park Service spokeswoman Christie Vanover said. People who remained on the boat retrieved two of the three swimmers, but one man remained missing, she said.

The missing man, whose name was not released, was in 50 to 60 feet of water, Vanover said.

Rescuers looked for the man until about 8:30 p.m. before suspending their search until 8:30 a.m. today. About 15 people from the National Park Service, Nevada Department of Wildlife and Metro Police were participating in the search.
