FBI agents in Las Vegas arrest Michigan man accused of murder

FBI agents arrested a fugitive in Las Vegas Friday who was wanted in connection with the killing of a 6-year-old girl in Michigan, according to an agency press release.

Michael Duane Lawrence, 24, of Saginaw, Mich. allegedly shot and killed the girl and his former girlfriend.

The Saginaw Police Department investigated the cases and charged Lawrence with murder. The department then sought the assistance of the FBI after determining that Lawrence had most likely fled the state.

FBI agents in Michigan obtained a federal warrant charging Lawrence with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution and began a multi-state manhunt.

Lawrence’s ex-girlfriend, Angelica Olivarez, was shot and killed on April 15. Lawrence was then linked to the Aug. 29 drive-by shooting that killed 6-year-old Lay’la Jones. Both shootings occurred in Saginaw.

Lawrence is being held in jail in Las Vegas pending extradition to Michigan.
