Letter to the editor:

War spending has widespread effects

The Dec. 16 letter to the editor “Obamacare effects will be widespread” is wrong.

It is not Social Security and Medicare driving our debt but the costs of maintaining our very expensive military and completely unnecessary wars against often-imagined enemies that are leading us to financial ruin.

In the past 50 years, there has not been one single country that has been even a minor threat to attacking the U.S., yet we spend fortunes interfering in or attacking others. There is where our real problems are in terms of finances and world relations. Whether you agree or not, to much of the world, we are the terrorists.
