Adjusting the line: Romo-less Cowboys now 7-point underdogs against Eagles

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo looks for an opening to pass during the second half of an NFL game against the Washington Redskins in Landover, Md., on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013.

It didn’t take long for Las Vegas oddsmakers to react.

After news broke early today about Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback Tony Romo likely having a season-ending back injury, oddsmakers quickly adjusted the point spread for Sunday’s NFC East championship game, making the visiting Philadelphia Eagles a 7-point betting favorite against the Cowboys.

Backup Kyle Orton is expected to start under center for Dallas, making the Eagles a bigger favorite at the LVH, Cantor and William Hill. Some Las Vegas properties have the game off the betting board altogether.

With the winner advancing to the playoffs and the loser having its season end, Dallas briefly opened Sunday night as a 2.5-point favorite, according to Vegas Insider. But after Philadelphia scored more than 50 points against the Chicago Bears in the Sunday night game, the line flopped and the Eagles became a 3-point favorite.

Now after the Romo injury, Philly would have to cover by more than a touchdown for gamblers to win their wager. Here’s a link to all of the Week 17 lines.
