CARSON CITY — Nevada casinos collected revenue of $10.8 billion in 2012, up 1.5 percent from the previous year, the state Gaming Control Board reported.
Casinos on the Las Vegas Strip had revenue of $6.2 billion, a gain of 2.3 percent from 2011.
“The revenues on the Strip spilled over into other areas” of Clark County, said Michael Lawton, senior research analyst for the board. “It’s driving the economy,”
He said the board is “cautiously optimistic” that the casino business will continue to grow in 2013.
For the year, downtown Las Vegas casino revenue was up 2.5 percent; Laughlin fell 0.6 percent; the Boulder Strip had an increase of 2.3 percent; North Las Vegas was up 1.9 percent; Mesquite fell 0.2 percent; and the balance of Clark County was off 0.5 percent.
For the month of December, Nevada casinos reported revenue of $943.3 million, an increase of 10.2 percent from the same month in 2011. On the Las Vegas Strip, casino revenue was up by 13.4 percent in December, the Gaming Control Board said.
The board said downtown Las Vegas casinos reported a win of $36.9 million, up 19.6 percent in December; Laughlin had a win of $33.2 million, an increase of 1.7 percent; the Boulder Strip posted a win of $58.3 million, up 17.3 percent; Mesquite’s win fell 5.5 percent to $9.1 million; and the balance of Clark County was down 4.5 percent to $80.1 million.
The board said Washoe County casinos reported a win of $55.8 million in December, down 4.4 percent; Carson Valley casinos were off 4.4 percent to $7.2 million; and the win in Elko County dropped 2 percent to $19.9 million.
