Las Vegas Fire & Rescue gets interim chief

Las Vegas has named Deputy Fire Chief Scott Fuller as the interim head of the department while the city searches for a permanent replacement for outgoing Chief Mike Myers.

Fuller joined Las Vegas Fire & Rescue in 1991 and was promoted to deputy chief in January 2008.

Myers, who was named chief in January 2011, announced his retirement in January and said he was moving with his family to Chicago, where his wife took a new job. His last day as chief was Thursday.

“I’m excited about this new challenge, and I’m going to ensure that the high service standards that make Las Vegas Fire & Rescue one of the top departments in the country continue,” Fuller said in a statement.

A city spokesman said the city would finalize the search process for a permanent chief later this month.

Fuller said in a statement he did not intend to pursue the permanent job.
