Man pleads not guilty in slaying of 75-year-old woman

Bayzle Morgan, 21, accused of cornering a 75-year-old woman in her bathroom and shooting her during a robbery, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to felony charges.

A grand jury indicted Morgan on June 26 on charges of first-degree murder, robbery, burglary and kidnapping in the May 21 slaying of Jean Main.

The man police suspect acted as Morgan’s getaway driver, Keith Smith, 41, also pleaded not guilty. Smith is facing a gross misdemeanor charge of conspiracy to commit burglary and a felony burglary charge.

Main was found dead in her home in the 8000 block of Green Pasture Avenue in northwest Las Vegas with several of her belongings missing, Metro Police said.

Police tracked down Morgan after finding blood that wasn’t Main’s at the scene and interviewing several of his friends, authorities said.

Morgan and Smith are set to go to trial before Judge Michelle Leavitt on June 24, 2014.

The Clark County District Attorney’s Office has not yet announced whether it plans to pursue the death penalty in Morgan’s case.

Attorney Dayvid Figler, who specializes in death penalty cases, is representing Morgan.
