The Southern Nevada Health District is reporting its first two human cases of West Nile virus this year.
Officials say Wednesday that a 60-year-old woman is hospitalized with the more serious, neuroinvasive form of the illness, while a 70-year-old man has been diagnosed with the less serious strain.
The announcement comes a day after health officials said they'd detected infected mosquitoes in the 89014 ZIP code in Henderson.
Officials say it's likely that more mosquitoes carrying the disease are in other parts of the Las Vegas valley.
Health officials counted eight people infected with West Nile in Clark County in 2012, including one who died.
Authorities warn residents to wear bug repellents and get rid of standing water sources that can be a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
