Smoke from wildfire triggers air quality warning for week

With the Mount Charleston wildfire burning through thousands of acres, smoke from the fire has prompted Clark County officials to declare an air quality warning through Sunday.

The Clark County Department of Air Quality issued the warning Monday based on forecasts for moderate levels of smoke in the atmosphere throughout the week, Clark County spokesman Erik Pappa said in a news release.

Though unhealthy air quality levels are not expected throughout the week, the county advises that children, the elderly and people with respiratory diseases stay indoors as much as possible, and to take precautions to avoid inhaling excess smoke particles.
