51s fall in ninth at Nashville, still in first place by 2 games

The Las Vegas 51s lost for the second straight day at Nashville, falling 3-2 Wednesday when the Sounds’ Eugenio Velez connected on a game-ending RBI single in the bottom of the ninth.

Jamie Hoffmann clubbed a pair of solo home runs for Las Vegas, leading off the ninth with his second blast to even the game at two. But Nashville, which scored once in the first inning and never trailed, won the game in the bottom half of the frame.

Despite the loss, Las Vegas (60-50) still leads Tucson by two games in the Pacific Southern Division. Tucson beat Memphis Wednesday, 4-2.

The 51s continue their series Thursday at Nashville.
