Metro Police will conduct a sobriety checkpoint near Blue Diamond Road in west Las Vegas Friday night due to a number of impaired drivers and traffic fatalities in the area, police said.

The checkpoint is scheduled from 7 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Sunday morning, police said. Metro Police Sgt. Rich Robinson said the exact location has yet to be determined, but should be decided by Wednesday and will be in the Blue Diamond area.

The area was selected due to a high number of accidents and impaired driving, police said.
