Whoa, now that was a hot one.

Las Vegas and extreme heat go together like Buffalo and snow, but this past weekend was one for the books.

The daily temperature set records on Friday and Saturday and flirted with another one on Sunday, when the high of 109 was just 2 degrees shy of the record set in 1985. Friday’s and Saturday’s highs of 109 and 112, respectively, both broke the previous marks by 1 degree.

The searing heat sent Las Vegas residents and visitors to pools, splash parks and drink stands throughout the valley.

The heat is expected to ease off somewhat today, with the National Weather Service forecasting a high of 102. Temperatures are expected to remain in the low 100s the rest of the week.
