Auto junkyard fire displaces Henderson family

A family of six and two dogs has been displaced Thursday after a Henderson automobile junkyard fire destroyed their temporary residence.

Henderson Fire responded to reports of a fire about 7 p.m. at National Fleet Wash in the 700 block of West Sunset Road, near Gibson Road. Firefighters arrived to find several cars burning in the junkyard, Henderson Fire Battalion Chief Shawn White said.

The fire also destroyed a small building on the junkyard lot, which housed two adults, four children and their two dogs, White said. Firefighters extinguished the flames in about 15 minutes.

No one was injured in the incident.

The fire caused about $40,000 in damage. The cause of the fire is unknown, White said.
