Las Vegas 51s sting Bees with 4-1 win

Behind a strong performance by starting pitcher D.J. Mitchell, the Las Vegas 51s cooled off a hot opponent Saturday night with a 4-1 win over the Salt Lake Bees.

The Bees came to Cashman Field on a six-game winning streak and with eight victories in their past 10 games, but Mitchell held them scoreless through five innings while striking out eight and giving up only four hits.

The 51s built a two-run cushion in the second inning, as third baseman Rylan Sandoval keyed a two-run inning with a first-pitch double to left. Three innings later, right fielder Mike Baxter made it 3-0 with a solo homer.

Sandoval struck again in the eighth with an RBI double.

The 51s (39-35) meet the Bees (41-36) again at 12:05 p.m. Sunday at Cashman.
