51s allow 4 runs in eighth inning, lose 6-3

The Las Vegas 51s allowed four runs in the eighth inning — aided by a pair of errors — in a 6-3 loss to the Salt Lake Bees on Sunday at Cashman Field.

Las Vegas starting pitcher Jacob DeGrom struck out seven Bees in six scoreless innings, and first baseman Rylan Sandoval homered.

The 51s took a 1-0 lead on a Brian Bixler RBI single in the fifth. Salt Lake tied the game at 1 in the seventh, aided by a throwing error by relief pitcher Gonzalez German.

After a Bixler RBI double gave the 51s a 2-1 lead, the Bees struck back against Sean Henn. Andrew Romine walked and went to third on an errant pickoff attempt by Henn. Romine scored on a triple by Cole Calhoun to tie the score at 2.

Luis Rodriguez then reached on a throwing error by 51s third baseman Eric Campbell, and Calhoun scored to make it 3-2 Salt Lake. Tommy Field followed with a two-run homer.

The 51s (39-36) meet the Bees (42-36) again at 7:05 p.m. Monday at Cashman.
