When Henderson officials were putting together the city’s inaugural “Discover Our Trails Scavenger Hunt,” they were moved to verse.
The challenges, designed for riders on Bike Henderson trails, each offer poetic clues, including one that starts:
Go west, young man, they used to say,
Away from the park where you’d like to play.
Remember the goal is to ride our trail,
Don’t go by road or you will fail.
The free scavenger hunt coincides with National Bike Month and runs through May 31. City officials call it a family-friendly mystery game, and it includes a special trail for mountain bikers.
“Henderson offers wonderful bicycling amenities throughout the community, especially our award-winning trails system,” Mayor Andy Hafen said in a news release. “Throughout the month of May and beyond, we’re encouraging residents at every skill level to Bike Henderson, participating in a number of bicycling activities, including our own Discover Our Trails Scavenger Hunt.”
Bicyclists have until Friday, May 31, to finish the three scavenger hunt courses, which range from two to five miles roundtrip and are designed for all bicycling abilities. Riders earn points by finding and snapping photos of landmarks or markers uncovered via hints within the scavenger hunt riddles.
Participants must submit their scavenger hunt photos to [email protected] by the end of May. The email must contain the participant’s name with contact information, as well as the name of the trail completed in the scavenger hunt and photos.
Prizes, donated by Henderson Community Foundation, will be awarded to the top three finalists completing the three trails. The first-place award is a Garmin GPS watch; second place is a CamelBak hydration pack; third place is a bicycle headlight. A $100 bike shop gift card will be awarded to one winner who finished the challenge rider trail, in addition to the other three rides.
