Nevada jobless rate down to 9.6 percent in April

State officials say Nevada's unemployment rate ticked down to 9.6 percent in April.

Data released Thursday by the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation shows the jobless rate is down two percentage points year-over-year. It's also down slightly from 9.7 percent in March.

More than 132,000 people are still out of work.

Officials say Nevada added a seasonally adjusted 5,600 jobs between March and April, after the private sector added 6,400 jobs and the public sector cut 800.

The jobless rate has dropped in the state's metro areas. Las Vegas' unemployment rate was 9.6 percent in April, while the rate was 9.7 percent in Reno-Sparks and 10.1 percent in Carson City.

Elko's jobless rate is 5.6 percent.
