Zak Hymas completed 9 of 11 passes for 122 yards and three touchdowns today to lead the Moapa Valley High football team to a 47-0 victory against visiting Cheyenne in the first round of the Division 1-A playoffs.

Moapa Valley (10-0), the No. 1 seed from the Sunrise, led 33-0 at halftime in staying undefeated on the season.

Lance Hilton had a pair of interceptions for Moapa Valley, returning one 67 yards for a touchdown. In total, Moapa Valley forced three turnovers in limiting Cheyenne to 87 yards rushing and 40 yards passing, according to the Moapa Valley stat team.

The Pirates rushed for 232 yards, highlighted by 83 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries by Kaleb Bodily.

The win sets up a rematch against Virgin Valley, which Moapa Valley beat 53-35 early this season. The game, however, was much closer than the score indicates.

“We’ll have our hands full for sure. They run and throw it both well,” Moapa Valley coach Brent Lewis said. “It’s going to be one of those chess matches. They exposed some weakness in us. We will have to fix those problems.”
