President Barack Obama is proposing a new program called Early Childhood Education. It is impossible to argue with the premise because the necessity is so requisite. We must break the cycle of our mediocre and declining educational results.
As we are now witnessing, initiating a program that has not been sufficiently vetted produces chaos. My suggestion to Obama would be for him to explain to us why the Head Start program, with a correlating mission statement, has proved to show no appreciable progress in the most vulnerable children. How does this new program differ from Head Start? Will we still be funding Head Start?
We do not need smooth-sounding rhetoric. We need a nuts-and-bolts explanation with an independent panel of blue-ribbon educators as to how and why this program is viable.
