A man was critically hurt this morning after a garage caught fire inside a condominium complex in the west Las Vegas Valley.

Las Vegas Fire & Rescue spokesman Tim Szymanski said the fire erupted about 5:51 a.m. at the Stone Ridge Condos in the 2100 block of Turquoise Ridge Street.

When firefighters arrived, smoke was billowing from underneath the garage door, which was open about 6 inches from the ground. Inside, a man was lying unconscious on the floor.

He was rushed to University Medical Center in critical condition to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Firefighters quickly put out the fire, which produced more smoke than flames, Szymanski said. It caused an estimated $10,000 worth of damage.

Per department procedure, fire investigators and Metro Police are examining the incident because the man was so badly hurt.
