Letter to the editor:

Before you vote, inform yourself

When giving advice, it is best to know what one is advising about.

As Ben Franklin was walking out of the First Continental Congress, a woman asked “Mr. Franklin, what type of government did you give us?” His reply was “A republic, madam, if you can keep it.”

Step 1. Learn that the United States is a republic and not a democracy.

Step 2. Know what that means.

Step 3. Be an informed voter.

Step 4. Vote using the information you have gathered.

Or ...

Step 1. Ignore all of the above.

Step 2. Vote because you can.

Step 3. Complain vehemently about the uninformed choices you made. There’s always the next election to get it right.
