Crossing guard injured

Metro Police have identified a woman who was arrested this morning after she allegedly shoved a crossing guard to the ground and stole his car.

The crossing guard, whom police described as elderly, had been working with his wife at Antelope Way and Pinedale Avenue near Helen Smith Elementary when he was carjacked about 8:30 a.m.

Veronica Gonzalez, 26, purportedly pushed the victim before stealing his car. Witnesses told police that Gonzalez then jumped inside the car and sped away, crashing into another vehicle nearby.

Gonzalez reportedly tried to flee, but she was detained by a group of good Samaritans. She was arrested on charges of robbery and grand larceny auto and booked into Clark County Detention Center.

The victim was taken to MountainView Hospital with a minor injury.
