Hit and Run
Metro Police have identified a suspected drunken driver accused of causing a collision that killed two people near the Strip this morning.
The motorist, Hans Bludau, 24, was driving a Mercedes-Benz west on Desert Inn Road near Channel 8 Drive about 1 a.m. when he crashed into a pickup traveling in the same direction, Metro Police said.
The pickup went rolling off the right side of the road, hitting a palm tree and crushing two people inside. Meanwhile, the Mercedes continued driving west and hit a raised concrete center barrier. Bludau allegedly jumped out and ran away before police found him at a nearby hotel.
He was charged with felony counts of hit-and-run and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Both people inside the pickup died at the scene. Their names are not yet available, but they have been identified as a 31-year-old Las Vegas man and a woman whose age remains unknown.
The incident brought the city’s total number of traffic-related deaths to 74 this year.
