A portion of the 215 Beltway was closed this morning after a concrete mixing truck overturned, resulting in the death of the driver, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
Around 9:50 a.m., a concrete truck traveling east on the 215 Beltway struck an orange construction zone barrel just west of Jones Boulevard and then overturned, according to Trooper Jeremie Elliott. The truck caught on fire with the driver stuck inside the cab. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Elliott.
It is not known at this time why the truck struck the barrel.
All lanes of the 215 Beltway eastbound near Jones Boulevard were closed, and motorists were encouraged to seek alternative routes through much of the day.
KLAS-TV reported late Tuesday that the highway reopened about 6:15 p.m. after an 8-hour closure.
