One dead, one in critical condition after crash that shuts I-15 lanes for 8 hours

A motorcyclist died and a passenger is in critical condition today after the motorcycle crashed into a vehicle that had spun out on southbound Interstate 15.

Nevada Highway Patrol responded to the three-vehicle crash about 2:45 a.m. on I-15 near Sahara Avenue.

A vehicle making an unsafe lane change caused a Chevy Tahoe to hit the median wall and spin around to face the opposite direction on the highway. A man traveling south on a motorcycle with a female passenger then struck the front of the Tahoe, Trooper Jeremie Elliott said.

The man on the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene, and the female passenger was taken to University Medical Center Trauma in critical condition, Elliott said. No one else was injured in the accident.

The collision caused southbound I-15 lanes near Sahara Avenue to be closed for nearly eight hours, Elliott said.

Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
