Another senior officer leaving Metro Police

An infusion of new leadership is in store for Metro Police as a senior officer announced his retirement today, following the retirement of another assistant sheriff in July and Sheriff Doug Gillespie’s announcement that he will not seek reelection in 2014.

Assistant Sheriff Greg McCurdy announced he is retiring effective Oct. 3., Metro Police spokesman Bill Cassell said.

McCurdy was in charge of the Homeland Security and Law Enforcement Investigation units within the police department.

McCurdy is leaving to take a position as vice president of corporate security for SLS Las Vegas, a new hotel scheduled to open in fall 2014 in what was once the Sahara.

McCurdy, 52, joined Metro in 1983.

At the end of July, Assistant Sheriff Ted Moody announced his retirement from the force before later declaring his intentions to run for sheriff.
