Officials identify husband, wife in murder-suicide

Murder-suicide

A husband and wife who died in an apparent murder-suicide on Wednesday have been identified.

Nicholas Frank Lanza, 51, and Megan Kathleen Lanza, 38, were found about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday evening while police were conducting a welfare check at the woman's home on the 5600 block of Thunder Spirit Street, near Russell Road and Grand Canyon Drive, Metro Police said.

Relatives had summoned officers to the location because they were unable to get a hold of the couple.

Metro Police believe Nicholas Frank Lanza fatally shot his estranged wife before turning the gun on himself.

The coroner's office on Saturday confirmed that the woman died of gunshot wounds to the head and chest, and her husband died of a gunshot wound to the head. Her death was ruled a homicide; his was determined to be a suicide.

Police said the husband and wife had apparently been having marital problems and were separated. Homicide detectives believe the man had gone to the woman's home to discuss their relationship when he shot her.
