Updated Monday, Sept. 30, 2013 | 4:30 p.m.

A crash involving two teen drivers this morning in the northwest valley left one of them dead.

Metro Police said a 17-year-old boy driving a motorcycle died after colliding with a sport utility vehicle at the intersection of Ann Road and Grand Canyon Drive. The accident happened at 6:53 a.m.

Evidence indicates the motorcycle, a 2003 Kawasaki Z1000, was traveling west on Ann Road and proceeding through the intersection when the collision occurred, police said.

A 2011 Nissan Rogue, driven by a 16-year-old girl, was traveling north on Grand Canyon Drive from a stop sign at the intersection, police said. The motorcycle struck the passenger side of the SUV, ejecting the teen driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released.

The impact also caused the SUV to roll onto its driver side, police said. The driver of the SUV was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

An accident investigation is ongoing. This was the 69th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction in 2013.
