Nevada unemployment rate holds at 8.5 percent in March

CARSON CITY — Nevada’s unemployment rate held steady in March at 8.5 percent, the same as the previous month.

The state Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation reported an estimated 117,000 people out of work. Total employment stood at 1,205,500 statewide.

There was no breakdown of the unemployment rates in the urban areas. That information will be released next week.

The state jobless rate compares to the national rate of 6.7 percent.

Department Economist Bill Anderson said the labor market is trending in a positive direction, with 47,200 more people at work in March as compared to the same month a year ago.
