letter to the editor:

Our young people and a TV blunder

One would hope the college student who pronounced “Achilles” as “A-chill-is” on a recent college edition of “Wheel of Fortune” is not representative of today’s college students.

What really surprised me is that a few networks ran with this the next few days, highlighting this embarrassing moment even more. The student made a couple of other blunders during the show, too.

I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt that he might have been nervous.

Some late-night shows have “man on the street” segments in which mostly young people are asked questions. The majority of them fail to answer many of the questions, such as identifying a picture of Vice President Joe Biden or other famous people who should be easily identified.

With this country being youth-oriented, let’s hope we have many bright young people to lead us into the future. And hey, some of us older folks better study up on our current events, too.
