Updated Monday, April 21, 2014 | 10:08 a.m.

A scooter driver and passenger suffered serious injuries early today after a person suspected of driving under the influence crashed into them near the Las Vegas Strip, Metro Police said.

Police responded about 2:10 a.m. to the crash on Koval Lane at Harmon Avenue. Evidence indicates that an Infiniti sedan driven by Matthew Thompson, 31, of Las Vegas crashed into the back of the scooter while traveling south on Koval, police said.

The collision sent the riders flying from the scooter. Both people on the scooter were taken to University Medical Center, Officer Laura Meltzer said.

The 19-year-old female passenger was in critical condition, and the 27-year-old male driver was in serious condition. Their names have not yet been released.

Thompson was arrested and booked at the Clark County Detention Center on one count of felony DUI, police said.

Koval Lane reopened to traffic about 6:50 a.m.

The crash remains under investigation.
