Joe Downtown: Inspire Theater to show documentary on jazz, big band musicians

A multi-award-winning documentary about female jazz and big band musicians from the 1930s to now will be shown at downtown’s new Inspire Theater next week.

The New York Times described “The Girls in the Band,” which was released last year, as “everything a worthwhile documentary should be, and then some.”

The film will be shown at 7 p.m. April 29 at Inspire, 501 Fremont St. Tickets are $10; $5 for students. For more ticket information, go to VegaVegas.com.

After the showing, Director Judy Chaikin will answer questions from the audience.

Joe Schoenmann doesn’t just cover downtown; he lives and works there. Schoenmann is Greenspun Media Group’s embedded downtown journalist, working from an office in the Emergency Arts building.
